A torsion spring has ends are rotated in angular deflection and offer resistance to externally applied torque. The wire itself is subjected to bending stresses rather than torsional stresses, as might be expected from the name. A torsion spring of this type is usually close wound, reduced in coil diameter, and increased in body length as they are deflected. The designer must consider the effects of friction and arm deflection on the torque.

Extension springs are springs which absorb and store energy by offering resistance to a pulling force. Various types of ends are used to attach the extension springs to the source of the force. Advanex Americas can produce extension springs with wire diameters of .005" - .320" in a variety of materials and specifications.

Compression springs are an open-coil helical spring that offers resistance to a compressive force applied axially. Compression springs are usually coiled as a constant diameter-cylinder. Other common forms of compression springs such as conical, concave, (barrel,) convex (hourglass) or various combinations of these are used as required by the application.

Wire forms have infinite uses and possess an equally large array of shapes and sizes. Wire forms can be anything from a load supporting link with negligible deflection to a tension applying component where a static load is necessary for proper function of an assembly.

Straight pins are straightened wire cut to customer-specified lengths and tolerances. The straight pins are then cut, chamfered and polished to remove burrs and enhance performance. Upon request, straight pins can be treated to enhance surface texture. Advanex Americas can produce straight pins available in lengths up to 18" and diameters up .187".
